In the ever evolving world of mobile media, business owners can’t help but wonder how they can use this technology andcopywriting for it to market their businesses. With the release of mobile tools like the Dell Axim (a pocket computer) and the unbelievable choices among cell phones, mobile marketing is taking a turn toward the future that has business owners racing to keep up.

– European countries were the first to utilize SMS (short message service) as a marketing ploy. Asia and North America were following closely behind with their own campaigns. Initially seen as a type of spam, SMS were quickly redefined as the most popular branch of the mobile marketing industry. In recent years, the cost of SMS, or text messaging, has been greatly reduced and now nearly everyone who owns a cell phone has a text messaging plan. This allows the owner to send or receive a number of texts without the exorbitant costs that were all too familiar in the not so distant past.

– Another popular form of mobile marketing is multimedia message service, or MMS. These are “texts” that are transmitted as photos, videos, or simple slide shows. This again has become a very popular feature among most cell phone owners and is quickly becoming a very effective means of marketing.

– Who uses this type of technology for marketing you might ask? The answer is simple; nearly everyone. Spas send messages to their clients about schedules. Doctor’s offices send reminders to patients. Grocery stores send out coupons and sales flyers. Even insurance companies are using SMS and MMS to offer plans to the uninsured, as well as upgrades and assistance to their own clients. One particular insurance company saw an influx in business after offering an “app” that allows their clients to request assistance, fill out insurance forms, and submit photographs of the accident all from their cell phone.

Newly emerging social networks are bearing a good bit of responsibility as exceptional marketing tools. With the increase of business joining social networks like Facebook, marketing is taking on a whole new look. The craft of copywriting is being reborn with the concept of social network advertising as well. Facebook can be an effective market to share minute pieces of information in a very fast manner.

So how can Facebook help you? The answer is simple – share, share, share.

– Create your page. Whether it’s to promote your website or simply to share information about who you are and what you do, Facebook is the place to get known. Use wisdom when sharing information, but make sure you are “searchable” under your name, as well as what you do.

– Start adding friends. Facebook is a marvelous network in that once you add friends; they can add friends, who will add their friends, who will add even more friends. Before you know it, you’ll have hundreds if not thousands of people following your every thought. Make that “status update.”

– Keep your information fresh. Facebook is constantly updating their news feed, which is where status updates appear. There’s nothing worse than a stale status, and yes your friends and clients will notice if you’re not updating. This is the way in which you’ll create awareness about your service or product.

– Figure out your target audience. Who do you want to notice you? What are you willing to do to get them to notice you? Do you have a plan for “closing the deal” once they are interested in you?

Facebook can be a revolutionary addition to your business, or it can be a great way to get yours up and going to start with. Understanding your market, as well as your product and making certain to dedicate the time to the work will ensure the success you’re after.
